Cyclones separate large quantities of solid dust from the suctioned air. Examples of this dust include woodchips, husks and granulate. Cyclones are usually installed before the dust control filter so that the filter has less to deal with.

The specific shape of the cyclone will make the air rotate. This cyclone will separate the solid particles from the air under the influence of the centrifugal force and inertia. The solid particles will land in the inertia chamber via the conical part of the cyclone after which a rotary valve will discharge these particles.
